Yearly Looks: a Unique Concept
Posted on 09. Jan, 2010 by Isaac Yassar in Blogging
Hello my friends!
We bloggers are always striving to add more uniqueness to our blogs, true? So am I. In this post, I would like to share you one of my unique concept that I apply here on my blog.
I call the unique concept as ‘Yearly Looks’. So every year, I will use different look / appearance for my blog. It includes my WordPress themes, logo, color scheme, layout, etc. The look symbolizes my hope and approach in the particular year.
So far, I already have two official year-looks for this blog:
1. Official 2010 Look: WooThemes
I like WooThemes because of its simple but wonderful color scheme. It symbolizes my hope for a colorful blogging experience in 2010.
2. Official 2009 Look: FrugalTheme
I like FrugalTheme because of its minimalist, simple, but elegant appearance. It symbolized my simple focus of building good content base in 2009.
In the end of 2010, I plan to prepare a new look for my official 2011 look to continue the concept.
I believe there are positive and negative sides of this concept. However, most sites out there do not have such concept as this. So I will try it on my blog to see how it works.
We won’t know until we try, right?

Not a bad idea give you a chance to try new themes and gives your blog a fresh look. Let’s see if you can make it the whole year.
Lot’s of good theme’s only so much time. I just gave mine a face lift also Dec is a nice slow time to do it.

Yeah, WooThemes has a good collection of themes. You can also ask an affiliated Woo workers to customize the look of your Woo Theme. It’s a good thing to do when your blog has grown big.

I’m a bit skeptical. Every time you change your theme and logo, your brand takes a hit. And for blogs like mine, that are incredibly small anyway, that could be very bad. (On the flip side, because I’m so small, it may be worth it for me to change things up a bit, and see what works).

I understand your opinion Leif. Yes, this concept has good and bad sides. That’s why I try it to learn about it further

Yup, well, hope to hear about how it’s going for you a few changes down the road. If it seams to be working, I’ll also give it a shot. (Although I generally try to stick to brown or maybe orange colors).

The loss of branding is the only negative thing I can see with your plan, although I would think most of your readers would be intelligent enough to realise that they were reading the same blog despite the change in appearance. Is it possible to change some elements of a them initially and introduce more changes over a period of time? This would maintain brand image while freshening up the appearance.

Yes, with some efforts, I can create a similar branding effect with the older look. Just need some time to work on it.
