How to Increase Pagerank

Posted on 02. Jan, 2010 by Isaac Yassar in Uncategorized

pagerankTruly a classic question, right mate?

As you might already know, this New Year 2010 Google gave us a present: global pagerank update. Alright! I am happy to receive a slight increase of 1 PR, from PR 4 to PR 5.

Actually PR is not a big concern for me, and I don’t think I’ve done much to increase it. However, I will try to give additional points to the classic discussion in this post, based on my PR 5 experience.

Let’s start, shall we?

This is certainly not a conventional guide my friend, and not for newbies either. While there are plenty of things out there that can potentially increase your PR, here, I will only explain two simple things that I believe to be the direct reasons of my PR 5.

Here they go:

1. My Secret Method

I believe this unique method of mine gave me a PR 4 in the past. Well, it’s not that secret any longer because I have written it on a post. Check it out here.

2. Joining Blog Engage

I believe this method is the reason of my PR increase, from 4 to 5. Blog Engage is a dofollow social community. The more you submit your articles there, the more PR juice you can garner. I had been quite active there when I got the PR increase. Check it out here.

That’s it. As far as I can remember, I only did those two things.

However, don’t forget to build good content base because pagerank is originally meant to measure value. The more value your content has, the more PR it should have. Though sometimes it’s not very accurate ;-)

If the comment section is dofollow, then it can flow PR juice to increase PR. But most comment sections are usually nofollow by default. They can do no good for PR.

Going from a 4 to a 5 is actually a good accomplishment. It seems to me that things get stuck at 4 and Google does not move everyone past that.

The next jump big jump is moving to a 7. Not many of those around.

I was shocked to get a 2 being only a month old. I was not expecting to get anything until next round.
Not an easy task isaac! Grate job and i wish you continued success. “-)

Thank you my friend. Well, that 7 is quite tough for bloggers, because problogger.net and copyblogger.com are only PR 6. Got to better than those two to earn a 7, say as good as mashable.com ;-)

Pagerank is irrelevant anymore. What’s Google take on Pagerank? Quoting from the Google FAQ page:

“Don’t worry. In fact, don’t bother thinking about it.”

Irrelevant for who? For us, probably yes. For Google, I dunno. They told us not to think about it but they still maintain and update it. It sounds fishy to me ;-)

Well, to be objective, PR probably still matters in some ways (not necessarily for us bloggers). I mean why would Google maintain and update it if it really doesn’t matter any longer? Could they have so much to waste on something irrelevant? ;-)

It doesn’t matter unless all you have to do is sit around looking at a toolbar.

Seriously, PR exists only so “we” will obsess over getting more of it!

So, since your PR increase, have you seen an abnormal increase in Google search traffic? I would be willing to bet, that the Google search traffic you are getting has an actual pattern, and increases on that pattern. That is because “true” PR (as opposed to the toolbar PR) changes constantly and WE don’t know what it actually is! Why else could your SERP rankings increase in between PR updates?

I think you forgot the “who” Keith. Doesn’t matter for whom? For you, probably yes. For me? For Google?

Come on buddy, you seriously think PR exists only to obsess people? So Google created PR only to obsess people? I dunno ;-)

I believe none should be obsessed with anything. If some people get obsessed with PR, that’s their own fault. Google has nothing to do with it. Neither do I ;-)

I keep saying it, but none of the newbies are comprehending it.

Read: “High Google PageRank does not guarantee good search engine placement. Pagerank is not used by Google to determine your rankings for keywords.”

You said the more value your content has, the more PR it should have.

    This isn’t true at all.

PR use to hold lots of weight, but Google has pretty much done away with it. It is just 1 of 200 Metrics used!

Google updates PR long before it is visible in the toolbar. Therefore the PR you see in the toolbar is out of date by the time it is published.

Matt Cutts of Google, has wanted Google to remove PageRank from the toolbar for a while now. I seriously wish they would.

Google has already dropped their PageRank values from the Crawl stats section in Google Webmaster Tools.

It can be true Rose. Here is the analogy: a person makes great content. Lots of people like the content and link to his content with dofollow links. Then the person gets better PR. Makes sense, right?

And I say “should”, so it is not always like that. I also said sometimes it’s not accurate.

Rose, you can 100% say that PR doesn’t matter to you, but you cannot 100% say it doesn’t matter for other people. Everyone has a right to decide for himself / herself whether it matters or not based on the perspective chosen. Not everyone takes it from traffic-based or make-money-based perspective, you know ;-)

Nope, I don’t target dofollow blogs. Those two above are a forum and a social community. Forums and social communities usually have higher PR than regular blogs. Their chance of delivering stronger PR vote is better. For PR juice, I’ll go to the two. For fun, I go everywhere.

About the interview, sure, I will email you soon ;-)

Are you having a hard time comprehending what I’m saying, because my guess is that you are?

PR is irrelevant to traffic, and ranking. PageRank is only concerned with the incoming links, not with the content.

Another thing: PageRank (PR) is specific to Google. It isn’t specific to any other search engine, so it can not be used to determine the value of content on a blog.

If I write a post on say maxi pads and a number of bloggers like to that post on maxi pads does it now make me an expert on maxi pads?

Again. The value of your content isn’t a factor on the Pagerank. Just because you have great content doesn’t mean you’ll have a high PR.

Also- PageRank is specific to a web page, not to the website.

It’s just not me who is saying PR isn’t important. Google has told webmasters to quit fussing over it.

There are over 200 factors that Google considers when ranking a page. PageRank is only one measure of a page’s worth. ( 1)

The green bar is not an important factor.

Why is Pagerank important to you?

PR matters to me as far as 1 reason only: I like it. What I like matters for me. It usually confuses me if some one try to say what I like doesn’t matter for me ;-)

I’ve told you, plenty of perspectives out there to choose. I am sure you are a wise person who will respect my perspective that I use for myself :-)

Interesting. Congrats on PageRank 5. I believe PageRank is a huge factor if you are competing for major single word keywords, but other than that for searches like “laptop” or “computer” or “houses” then PageRank has a much more limited role. Regardless, good article!
