How to Add www to WordPress Domain
Posted on 15. Jan, 2010 by Isaac Yassar in WordPress
Hello buddy!
When I first started this blog, my domain was only goblogger.net. I wanted to add www so it would be www.goblogger.net. However, I couldn’t find the setting for it in my domain CPanel.
It turned out that the setting was on my WordPress Dashboard.
If you want to add www (or remove it) from your WP powered own domain, follow these simple steps:
1. Login to your WP dashboard.
2. Visit Dashboard >> Settings >> General.
3. Edit your WordPress URL and Blog URL to include www (or not).
Example: http://www.your-domain.com or http://your-domain.com
4. Save Changes & done.
Now you can visit your mainpage and you will see your new setting applied. People visiting your blog will be redirected to your set domain, either with www or not.
I personally love to use www because it makes my domain sounds more professional. How about you?

Is it that simple? I think there may be more to it (in some cases). I have a bunch of sites hosted with justhost as add on domains and my URLS always pointed to http://domain.com instead of http://www.domain.com which is what I wanted.
So I popped onto justhost live chat and they fix the problem for me pretty quick. I asked them how they did it so I don’t have to bug them in future and they said they have to access my database to change it. I’m thinking it’s because they’re ADD ON domains perhaps why it’s a little more complicated.
I have a couple more domains I could try out so I’ll try your way and see if I can avoid talking to justhost support. Will get back to you!

I like the www. I think you are right it seems more professional, but you didn’t need the WWW to make you professional. You already are!

Isaac great post. I stumbled onto this settings when I set my second blog up. It does look more professional by having the www. in the front.

To be honest, I don’t use www, it only sound professional because that is what used to be required. However, without going into the technical details as to why, that is no longer the case. and most new websites don’t use www.

Yes, the www is only an addition. It needs plenty things to be ‘professional’.

I really don’t see the need for it (is there a need?)…. I have always set mine up without the www, but even if you type it that way you will be directed to my site…

It’s a matter of preference buddy. If you prefer your blog without the www, then it’s not a need

This doesn’t work in WPMU (Wordpress MU). Not only is the option not there, but you’ll lose the ability to login to your blog if you try to add the “www” in a WPMU blog.
