How Consistent are You in Blogging?

Posted on 19. Dec, 2009 by Isaac Yassar in Blogging

consistencyAnother simple question that matters.

Well, we know that consistency is important in blogging. However, I personally never thought about it in more details before now.

To answer that question, I am applying a new concept of consistency on my blog, and it’s regarding posts. I will publish a new post every 2 days. I will also try to post in a consistent time, every 00.00 – 01.00 PM on my watch here.

I have some reasons to do it:

1. Promotion

My plan of cycle is 1 day to publish new post and 1 day to promote my site. For a new blog like mine, I know that promotion matters. With special time for it, I hope it can grow faster.

2. Experience

Somehow, an idea flashed on my head yesterday. It said, “Aim not for great results, aim for experience. Experience makes you better no matter what”. So I guess I’ll try this new concept of posting new articles to get more experience on my blogging.

3. Location

On the next 6 days, I will be in my parents’ house. I got to do something there. Fortunately, there is a PC with internet connection there, so I can still get in touch. Unfortunately, it’s not as comfortable as my daily life, so I’m afraid my productivity will be affected. This new concept is a fuse for it.

4. A project

I have a project to set up a new website, so some of my time is spend for it. And yesterday someone just hacked it so I got some work to do there. I’m not really sad about it since it was an experience ;-)

I will try this new concept at least for a couple of weeks and see the results. I hope it will be good and I can be consistent enough in the process.

Indeed blogging requires sefl-discipline. It’s important to set your own rules and go by them. And by the way, Happy holiday Isaac!

@Codrut, I really hope you eat more than daily, because it might not be good for you otherwise.

I also try to blog several times a week. I am however, trying to determine whether it’s better to blog, or podcast. I certainly find podcasting more fun, but it seams like people will read a blog post that I make, faster than they will listen to an episode of a podcast I do, despite how regularly I do either. Maybe I need to continue to blog, and gain a larger audience, and then I can do more podcasting.

IMHO blog certainly has wider audience. Podcasts’ effectiveness is limited to native users of English. The non native people will find it very hard to get the message of the podcast. I know because I’m no native English user. For me, reading an article and listening to a podcast are much much different.

Unless if you have subtitles on your podcasts ;-)

Let us know how the new concept goes. At this stage, I have tried my best to post from Monday to Friday, but I do the odd day where nothing is published at all.

Will do buddy. For now, I can say that so far so good. I plan to write the experience on a special post in future.

I totally agree! I think a blog with a lot of random articles isn’t as successful as a blog with less articles but who share a common theme. It’s easier to get a targeted audience rather than a larger random audience.

Exactly Dan. And we also need to make friends with other bloggers of the same topic so we can form a small discussion in our topic.
