5 Reasons Why Short Posts are Good
Posted on 09. Dec, 2009 by Isaac Yassar in Uncategorized
Hi friends!
After my long pause of blogging, I cannot quickly go back to my full blogging nature. You are right, I need some adaptations first. One of them is by writing articles with a format of short post.
I can mention 5 reasons why short posts are good:
1. Fast to write
Short posts are fast to produce. It’s great for part-time bloggers, who have plenty of other activities on their daily routine. It’s also perfect for bloggers who need to update many blogs everyday.
2. Fast to read
I know very well that bloggers usually read / visit other bloggers’ articles everyday and then leave comments. If you have visited many of them in a single day, you will read less and scan more. If you have visited too many, you’ll skip reading and go straight to comments section
Short posts enable readers to get to the comments section fast. That’s good.
3. Perfect for lighter contents
I know some blogging teachers who write heavy contents in incredible depth, which tend to increase the load of reader’s brain. I’ll leave the super deep posts to them, and I’ll write lighter material that I and my buddies can enjoy. Simple.
4. Variation
Excellent deep posts are great. But everyone needs a little variation now and then to keep boredom away, right? This is where shorter posts play a decent role: as a variation.
5. Experiment
We can’t gain experiment before we try this and that in blogging. So, we can figure out which one is best for which situation, based on experiments. Short post is a must-try format. You can hardly call yourself a professional blogger if you haven’t write any short post before
This is a short post. Look how fast you can get to comment section

Hi bro! Glad to see you here. Yup, concise (aka short but complete) plus communicative is my favorite style of writing. I can hardly use “high” words anyway for I’m no native English user

I much prefer short posts to long ones, unless it is a long post that you can go back and reference at a later date.
Even then I think you could break long posts into a series. If it was a step-by-step following guide you could break it up into multiple and manageable blog posts where you could complete the step within an hour or less or something like that.
I think if you really plan it out right all blog posts can be kept reasonably short and be broken up into a series post which usually have a lot of appeal and make your readers come back and read too – waiting for the next part of the series

Yeah, I intentionally wrote this post as short as I could so that it can serve as an example of a short post.

Well, I’m not so sure that short post are better than long ones.
I guees that it depends on the topic: for example, I’ve seen some successful bloggers on personal development who have written very long articles. In fact, these articles have been their most popular ones. Steve Pavlina is the perfect example of it.
Besides, for very long articles (3.000 or more words)is easier to get on the top of google results.
Great post Isaac.

Hi David, thanks for your comment. You got some points there. Steve is a great person. In fact, one of his articles was an inspiration for me to blog professionally

I hate nothing more than finding a great topic in my reader that catches my attention and arriving to find out that the post is 400 scrolls long, hate it.

Fast to write, fast to read but hard to make it short as you need to have good writing skills and knowledge of that niche

Yup. It’s not easy. Learning is the key.

Short posts are nice. I read numerous blogs every day, and if the posts are too long it takes too much time and I tend not to read them all the way through. It is better to split them into a series of posts over a period of time. Not only is this better for the reader, I think it increases subscribers because they will want to know when more information is available.
Isaac Yassar
14. Dec, 2009
Yeah. Breaking long posts into series is more convenient for readers. It’s a good idea.

I agree with you that short posts are quick to read and write but search engines like posts which have atleast 300-400 words.. what do u say about that??

16. Dec, 2009
Well, it is back to our purpose in writing posts. We write it for human readers or search engines?

Love to read short post. But I prefer long illustrative post for my blog as most of the times I demistify technology. It can also serve as a reference.

16. Dec, 2009
Yeah, in some cases, longer post is needed. Such as in technology and self development.

Yes, they;re good, but not in all cases…
For e.g. Short Posts are Good…
1. When you don’t have time to write longer posts
2. When you know for sure your readers and niche audience are short on time
3. When you have a contest or updates to announce
Feel free to continue the list…

Is it fair to say that sometimes a short post is appropriate but a long post is more suitable at other times? And how many words are there in a short post? Isaac’s original post must have been around 200 words and yet other people seem to think that 300 words comprise a long post. If I was looking for a review of a new laptop, for example, 500 words probably wouldn’t be enough.

I love to scan posts. I cannot read all of them because there are so many good posts around. With small posts, you obviously can read in less time and gain more knowledge. Excellent stuffs!

Thanks buddy. I agree with you. I also scan first, then I read in detail in some part that I am interested in.

Oh dear! Have I been doing it all wrong?
I’ve tried to write some informative posts, which has resulted in them being rather long.
Like you say, I’ll experiment and produce a few short ones.
I’ve got a few ideas, which will fit nicely into a short post.
