31 Days to Build a Better Blog: Awesome!
Posted on 11. Dec, 2009 by Isaac Yassar in Blogging
Hello!
This is my second review post, after my first simple review of frugal theme. Well, I’m not that good in reviewing things yet, but learning is by doing, right?
In this post, I will express my honest opinion about a great ebook written by Darren Rowse (ProBlogger.net) titled 31 Days to Build a Better Blog (31DBBB).
Shall we start now fellas?
My history
When I started this website, I had been reading Darren’s articles on ProBlogger.net . They were awesome and inspiring. As in building this website I wanted to go all out, when I heard about Darren’s 31DBBB and read some testimonial about it, I quickly spent my $19.95 for I knew that the book will benefit me more in long term. It does, as a comparison: how fast can you spend a $19.95?
About the book
This 94 paged ebook has a format of pdf workbook. The pages have landscape format (not portrait), with 2 smaller pages in each of the 94. It has 31 main chapters, and each of them is meant for one of the 31 days period. Each has a teaching part, and a constructive task to do. A link to 31DBBB forum is also provided so we can share our experience with other bloggers who are also on the program of 31DBBB.

The great parts
Awesome!! That was a single word to express my first days of working with 31 DBBB. The book truly changed the way I think and blog. The book is like a summary of Darren’s knowledge which answers when you ask “Hi Darren, how can I be a better blogger and earn success?”. A simple question that matters to every blogger, wrong?
Even only after a few days of learning the material and doing the task, I felt that my blog (and my ability to blog) had grown dramatically better. Thanks to Mr. Darren, the ‘teacher’ in the pdf ‘classroom’.
The framework of the book is truly, brilliant. I feel convenient in working with it. In a single day, I just read some teaching (mostly 500-1000 words) and do a single task. That’s fun, in total I just read 2-3 pages of the book (4-6 smaller pages). And they have double spacing and some images there
Though it is meant for 31 days period, it is adaptive. I can adapt it with my situation and condition. Sometimes I do one chapter everyday, sometimes one chapter every two days. Sometimes I get lazier
In my opinion, the book is a great investment. After I finished all the 31 days period, I can re-run the program again and learn / practice more and more. I think I’ll stop when all the great points are in my head.
This book also has impressive follow-ups. It offers a link to special forum where users can share experiences regarding the tasks and learn from each other. The forum has a special section for each of the 31 daily tasks. Also, each chapter on the pdf book have plenty of further reading for you to crawl online. If you are really thirsty of knowledge, both of them will satisfy your thirst for sure.
The weakness
Well, it won’t be a good and honest review if I only mention the good sides. But I warn you, this part might be a little subjective here
If you ask me about the weakness of the book, I will personally answer that some of the 31 materials were not too suitable to my level of blogging, they are quite advanced. I usually skip them and go to the next material. My plan was to re-run the tasks after I completed them once.
For me, most of the materials help significantly, and the rests help less significantly. But still helpful of course, none of them gives me nothing, to be objective. However, it certainly depends on the situation and condition of the person using the book. You and I might have different experience with the book because of our different backgrounds.
Some tasks are also harder than the others. Or it’s just me?
Summary
I highly recommend this book if you are to blog professionally, seriously, all out, and finally to earn success.
It’s not a magic pill to blogging success, it doesn’t give you everything you need to know about blogging (you still got to learn things yourself), but it’s a giant leap for your knowledge and ability in blogging (at least for me), if you optimally follow the program and not being too lazy in the ‘class’

Hi Jared. Yeah, we can say he’s the godfather of blogging. He has written more than five thousands posts on his ProBlogger.net since 2003. That’s an awesome number.
I am sure the book will help you in building your site. Good luck buddy.

wow, just 94 pages? lol
I prefer reading less stuff these days when everything is competing with our attention. Yes, I like small, tidbits of information that I can apply right away, and see an instant result, be it small…

Yeah, just 94. It supposes to be read about 2-4 pages per day. Quite convenient for me
