Why I Like WordPress Forum
Posted on 21. Aug, 2009 by Isaac Yassar in WordPress
I love WordPress Forum, I really do.
I joined the famous forum about three weeks ago, as I followed my program of 31 Days to Build a Better Blog. I started by asking a few technical question there. I also broke the forum rules once because I was so newb
Afterward, I realized that there were so many people asking help there, and only a handful part-timer and volunteer helping. As WordPress is a free publishing platform that I enjoy much, I felt like returning the favor back to WP society. That’s why I am active there now.
What I do there
I actually don’t know much about WP, but I still can contribute positively. How? I give people feedbacks, usually in “Your WordPress” section. Sometimes I crawl in “Miscellaneous” section as well. Everyday, many new WordPress users ask for feedback in building their blog / website. I visit their web addresses and then give them some constructive comments / suggestions.
It also synchronizes handsomely with my blog concept, ‘GoBlogger: Tips to Helps Blogs Go Better’. Help + blogs + better = feedbacks.
What I get
Being active in WP forum is not without reward, it gives me a few nice things:
1. Satisfaction
I feel satisfied when I can help someone, even though I can give only a small help. It feels good.
“We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give.” ~ Winston Churchill
2. Traffic
Most of my traffic comes from this forum. It is about 30% of my total monthly traffic. Usually comes from my threads where I ask for feedback for my site. I ask for comments / suggestions every time I have a change on my theme / blog.
3. Link
WP forum rules do not allow link signatures, but after posting some number of comment / thread, I got my name as a link to my blog. Afterward, every comment I leave there will contains my link. Sweet!
4. Recognition
The more I help people there, the more recognition I will reap. All I need to do is genuinely try to help people there and if they recognize it, they will usually be grateful to me. Good for branding.
You can also get those four if you like. We always need more active volunteer there, you know
Btw, do you like the WordPress Forum? Why?

Welcome to the forum then. I know that you personally design your site using ThemeFrame, and your site is quite impressive. So I guess you have some technical skill to help people there

Issac!
. It is always great to give back even if it is just a little. I never even thought of going on that forum. Thanks for pointing it out!
I enjoy using Wordpress also. It is relatively user friendly for even a guy like me

You’re welcome Jim. Why don’t you go there and ask for some feedback for your site? Many kind people in Your WordPress section would love to give you.

Thanks. Yes, I have also downloaded Atahualpa theme, but I haven’t tried it yet. The ‘200′ is quite a big number for options, I’m not sure if I won’t get overwhelmed

Sound like a good new place to visit. Will have to check out if I get some time today. Free feedback is always good.

Thanks Jared and Kevin for your kind words. WP Forum is indeed a decent place to visit and it is useful. But it needs more volunteers as there are still so many unanswered threads.

Very true Isaac, I normally try to visit the threads with no replies hoping I can answer the question being asked. Sometimes I can but I’m still fairly new with WP.

Hi David, thanks and welcome to my blog.
About WP forum, I guess about 70 of total comments plus threads. I got my link after I had posted about 50 comments and started about 20 threads. I don’t know the exact number though. But it really feels good to have our name as a link

I guess you have to link to a site built with WordPress. It will be strange if you go there when you don’t use WP.
