What Makes Blog Promotions Work
Posted on 16. Aug, 2009 by Isaac Yassar in Uncategorized
“How to promote my blog?” a friend of mine asked me on Facebook a while ago.
Are you wondering for the same question?
I gave my friend a few common promotion methods in my answer but I doubted that it would be any good for him. See, hundreds of promotion methods are useless, unless they work for you. Knowing fifty methods counts to nothing if you can’t make them work.
How to make them work? There are a few factors that make a blog promotion method works:
1. How you promote it
There are good and bad ways to promote a blog, no matter you promote it on social media, blog carnivals, forums, comments on other blogs, etc. If you use the good ways, you will get traffic and acknowledgments. Bad ways are good way to ruin your reputation and your brand.
Spamming is a good example of bad promotion methods. People can spam on social media, carnivals, forums, or comment sections. Even they can spam search engines now. None appreciate spam but other spammers.
2. What you promote
You can promote good or bad stuff. In blogging, this stuff refers to content. People love good contents, and regret reading poor one. You can be proud of good content, which deliver value to users. If you don’t think people will appreciate your content, don’t promote it.
How you wrap your content is also important. Nice article formatting can reveal the true value of our content to your visitors. Overall site appearance is also critical. Broken and messy theme can kill the mood of your potential readers instantly. A nice theme is a must for every blogger.
3. Time and trust
Promoting a good content once doesn’t make people trust you. You need to keep promoting good contents that deliver value to your audience. You need time to build trust from public. Once public trust you as a good source of content, your promotion will work like a charm.
4. You
You are the subject when it comes to blog promotion. You are the mastermind behind the process. One same promotion method can work for a blogger but not for another. The difference lies in the skill and knowledge. Therefore, constant learning to improve your skill and knowledge is a necessity.
Working on the four factors above will help your blog promotion to give you better results. Build up those factors, build up your promotions, and build up your blog. It is a constant process requiring time energy, and resource.
How about your blog promotion methods? What makes them work? Your comments are most welcomed

Hey Isaac!
Great Post! I have found that going to different forums and sharing ideas with other bloggers really helps to promote your blog. Write a useful comment or start a thread on a forum really does help to promote and drive traffic to your blog.

Thanks Jim. Truly correct. It is one of my favorite methods as well. I am active in WordPress forum, especially on “Your WordPress” section. I try to give useful and genuine feedback to those who ask there. Most of my traffic comes from that forum.

Great information Isaac. Usually, I write a useful thread on a forum like Digitalpont or Warriorforum, but also promote my blog on social like Digg and site like Answers.yahoo.com. However, the key rule is: No spam, but give helpful and unique resources.

Thanks Nick. Indeed spam is the worst marketing ever. I am personally active on WordPress forum. But I’m not really good with WP, I just like to give feedback to those who ask, and there are lots of them
