Make money blogging is a business and the businessperson behind it (namely you) needs adequate soft skills to run it well. If you are to succeed in your blog business, here are 10 soft skills you might want to develop:

1. Skill to learn new things

You can’t learn well if you keep rejecting new knowledge. There are many sources of knowledge out there. It is always good to flow with them, not against them. Accept it first, decide to use or not later. Open your mind to learn well.

All experts started as noobs. And this skill is the one that made those noobs experts.

2. Multi-tasking skill

There are many things to do when you actively blog and can’t afford others to do some of the jobs for you. For example: learning new knowledge, writing new posts, editing older posts, responding to comments, adjusting widgets, promotions, networking, etc. If you can’t do these tasks simultaneously, you might fall off the wagon of blogging success.

3. Positive thinking

Everything around your blogging activity is like a coin having two sides. For example, when you start your blog, other bloggers may have set sail way in front of you. Their success can discourage or encourage you. Choosing the positive one will bring constructive impact.

You are what your think you are.

4. Motivating skill

You can use motivating skill to yourself or others. There are times when your spirit in blogging is about to vanish and your performance becomes poor. Self-motivating is the key to lit your spirit and increase your performance again. Depending on your field, you can also use this skill to motivate your audience if necessary.

5. Communication skill

Blogging for money always involves other people especially your audience, and communication skill takes important role there. No matter you have the greatest value in the world, if you can’t communicate it well, it is useless. When your message gets to your audience clearly, your communication skill is honed.

6. Presenting skill

The way you present your brand and value is vital to build both first and long term impression. Readers see your presentation from the appearance of your blog, how you present yourself, the way you share your value inside your posts, etc. Craft your presentation carefully and try to improve it gradually.

7. Influencing skill

When you try to deliver value to others, you are trying to influence them positively. You want them to be better with your assistance. You want to help and you want people to accept your help with arms wide open. The best way to influence people is by giving them genuine value for free, asking for nothing in return.

8. Skill to work under pressure

Pressure in blogging comes from many sources, such as low traffic, overwhelming new knowledge to learn, seeing no signs of success, stiff competition, etc. They can reduce your blogging efficiency, though might not as far as stopping you. Do what you have to do to get rid of it, listen to yourself.

9. Hard working

Blogging success requires many skills and obtaining them takes time. Hard work makes the process much faster. Harder work means faster success. Can you name a successful blogger who is not a hard worker?

10. Persistence

Persistence is not giving up. Getting what it takes to succeed in blogging requires continuous process. If you stop before the process gives you the minimum amount of skills needed, your attempt will be futile.

Many successful bloggers reach their success years after they started. Many obstacles could have stopped them in the middle. If they chose to quit, they wouldn’t have reached their success by now.

All of those skills above are common soft skills needed in professional business. If you are to make your blog professional money maker, arming yourself with those skills are smart move. Interested?

    Isaac,

These are great skills to have. I think it’s also highly important to have great connections, so that people will link to you– and that will drive a lot of traffic.

Djupi and I are both growing very young blogs. What I have in mind is a partnership program for new bloggers like us. It consists of link exchange, subscription exchange, readership exchange, and comment exchange. Based on negotiation though :-)

Great list I think this holds true for just about anything. Learning is huge you will need to be able to quickly learn or you will fall behind quickly. If you don’t enjoy learning new thing go find a 9-5 routine job.
