Why an Elevator Speech is Vital for Your Blog

elevatorDo you have an elevator speech for your blog yet?

“Elevator speech (also known as elevator pitch) is an overview of an idea for a product, service, or project. The name reflects the fact that an elevator pitch can be delivered in the time span of an elevator ride (for example, thirty seconds and 100-150 words).” Said Mr. Wikipedia.

So, what is elevator speech doing on blogosphere? For professional bloggers, a decent elevator pitch / speech can serve as a multi-function tool to support their blog. It is helpful in making introductions, promoting contents, keeping their progress on track, improves credibility, etc.

But I don’t say it is vital because of those functions. Then why?

Before I answer the question above, let’s see the ideal components of an elevator speech (for a blog):

  • Greeting: grab attention and build interactive atmosphere.
  • Introduction: inform who you are and what you do (or what your content does).
  • Problem / need: state the need and its obstructing problem (the demand).
  • Solution: explain how exactly you solve the problem and fulfill the need (the supply).
  • Call to action: offer audience to take further action, or alternatively, ask a stimulating rhetoric question.

My elevator speech is an example:

Hi. I am Isaac Yassar from Go Blogger (dot) net and I help blogs go profitable. See, many bloggers want to make money from their blogs, but unfortunately, success only comes with the right track. This is where GoBlogger makes its entrance by providing surefire ideas of profitable blogging. Would you like to make money from your blog?

So, why elevator speech is vital for bloggers?

Because an ideal elevator pitch / speech contains a whole concept for your blog to run well as a professional business. It shapes your blog and give you a clear image how and where you should direct your blog. Think about it. It has attention grabber, your brand, demand, supply, and call to action. These five are the essence of business. If you deal with them right, why don’t your blog succeed?

Get what I mean? If not, carefully craft your elevator speech and you should know what I mean.

What to do after you have one?

After you create the right pitch for your blog, you should use it as a blueprint. Supply the demand with your contents daily, try to grab the attention of your readers, call them to action, etc. Run you blog business, grow it, and earn your readers’ trust.

Don’t forget to keep improving it. Periodically make it clearer, shorter, more convincing, etc . Try to avoid metaphors and ambiguity because most people don’t have the time for it. You can also ask your friend or colleague to criticize your elevator speech. Don’t be afraid to be confident about yourself. If you don’t believe yourself, how would your readers believe you?

So, want to create an elevator speech for your blog now? Or you already have one? Let’s share :D

Great post,Isaac. I learned about elevator pitches in respect of book proposals and promotions but must admit I hadn’t consciously thought of it in the blogosphere. That said, I do realise the importance of capturing visitors attention the moment they land on your blog, and offering them a solution to their need. I’m about to change my home page. See whether you think I’ve achieved that aim or not. I’d value your opinion. Thanks.
